One In A Million: Thrilled to be in the top 20
-by JOE LEE -
DAYANG Nurfaizah is in the top 20 of the newest reality talent search programme and she looks good to make the final cut.
While the R&B singer is excited at having made the second last cut to qualify as a contestant for 8TV¡¦s upcoming One in a Million, it also means shelving plans for her starry debut on the silver screen with Indonesian screen queen, Dian Sastrowardoyo.
"I¡¦m happy that I made it through. There are some really good singers out there. The competition is tough."
However, with all the brickbats over her entry, Dayang said her qualifying was especially meaningful.
"Everyone has been hard on me for entering the competition, since I¡¦m already a recording artist. I was taken aback by the reaction but it has only made me focus more on what I want from this," she said.
And that includes having to shelve plans for her starring role in Luka, the RM3 million joint-venture film between Malaysia¡¦s Lukafilms and Indonesia¡¦s Sinemart.
Dayang was supposed to check into prep camp with the rest of the cast in mid-May before the filming in June.
Her manager, Shaliza Kader Sultan, said that they had notified the producers.
"We requested for a postponement (of the shoot) on the same day she made the first round of auditions on April 23 as we knew that there were bound to be a clash in their respective schedules."
Dayang said there would be no cancellations and that shooting for the movie has been put on hold.
"I¡¦m excited about both projects and I want to give one hundred per cent in whatever I do. This postponement will allow me to do both without worrying about being stretched too thin," Dayang said.
In between her participation in One In A Million and Luka, Dayang has something special planned for her fans.
"This year marks the seventh year I¡¦ve been in the local music industry, so I¡¦ll be having a special show in Planet Hollywood in July to celebrate that, along with my birthday."
Dayang was among 89 candidates picked from 5,000 hopefuls last month. Twenty were short-listed for the semis and 12 will go in to the finals.
The show will be aired on 8TV every Friday at 9.30pm from May 26.
