Knowing that Priest & Arjuna were going to be heading to Times Square, i was there as early as possible to bear witness.
There was already a decent crowd gathering there as I arrived.
A very important point to note was that many hopefuls hid their faces or turned away as soon as i pointed the camera at them. Now that's a bad sign. If they can't face a camera and feel shy or don't want their pics seen in the press, online or on TV, what are they doing here then. That totally defeats the purpose of pursuing this career path then. If you can't even embrace the cam, you have no chance at all. Of course, there were many who worked the camera, to increase their profiles as if they were already pros at it. Good for them. This is a serious competition with a lot at stake and they gotta do everything possible to make it happen for themselves.
One character who never seems to give up is Michael "Jackson" of "you break my heart" fame. Apparently he did turn up to audition and made it through pre judging on day 2, but was shown the door again by the judges. And even more amazingly, he turned up again today to try an audition again, but was immediately given his walking orders by the registration coordinators. He quickly scooted off before i could get a word out of him.
One interesting character i found after being alerted by the crew was Wayne Wai, who came kitted in football boots. Yes, you heard me. Football boots. This 24 year old from Tasik Bera in Pahang who has previously auditioned for both MI1 & MI2, claims that it was his fashion statement, and wears them everywhere. Even on tiled surfaces. He apparently has no problems walking with them. Aiyoh, Wai Wayne, Wai???
(Wayne, the SAMBAL KICKing fashion fiend)
(Will Paul & Syafinaz give him the "boot"? Just have to wait and see. Any punters out there? Wanna place a bet?)
Sometimes its nice to see the whole family turning up to give their loved ones support. For a while i didn't know who was actually auditioning.
This one wasn't.
But these were.
Some showed off their guitars,
as well as their talents for everyone to see.
And some just sang in their heads.
And others didn't even bother to sing and decided to take flight instead.
And some took their time to get there.
Like Elaine Doris Joseph (above) who quickly vanished into the crowd, as soon as i asked her whether she was a professional singer. She must have thought I was a stalker. LOL.
Also arriving fashionably late was this shogun/samurai.
And our very own Arjuna. Aiyoh. Everybody breaking for lunch, baru dia mahu sampai. Nasib baik they let you register.
