Kamal, Muhamad & Zahid want a piece of the action too.
This must truly be a year for band battles, as well as a big boon for all upcoming bands to showcase their talents and gain much needed headway in the local music industry. Hot on the heels of Shell Advance Battle Of The Bands, Hard Rock Cafe's Battle Of The Bands & The Global Battle Of The Bands comes, Hotsound Studio's Music Showdown 2011 - Battle Of The Bands, which will be held for the second time, after a successful outing last year which saw 37 bands vying for honours in their inaugural effort. Last year's winners, melodic metalcore band, Bizharo, also went on to represent Malaysia and gain further recognition at Air Asia's Red Amp regional band competition.
The objective of Hotsounds Music Showdown 2011 is to provide upcoming bands, a platform and the opportunity, to showcase their talents at a national level, with the winners receiving RM6000 and the custom designed champions trophy, while the runner up & second runner up, receiving trophies, and RM4000 & RM2000 respectively. The rest of the bands that make it to the eight band semi finals will receive RM1000 each. The competition which has done away with age limits, this year, will run from 30th April to 26th June 2011, and is open to all aspiring musicians, regardless of genre.
The preliminary rounds will be held in Ipoh and Johore Baru (actual venues to be confirmed) due to the high level of requests by bands in the North & South, and, at Hotsound Studio's headquarters in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur. The semi finals will be held at the Bentley Auditorium, Wisma Bentley Music in Mutiara Damanasara, while the finals featuring the top four, will be held at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Although there will be no limit to the number of bands that will allowed to compete, the organisers have decided to cap it to a maximum of 20 at venues outside Kuala Lumpur, due to logistic considerations. Overall, they have targeted and are hoping to receive over 50 entries this year. Participation forms can be obtained from Hotsounds Studio directly, via email or downloaded online, and must be submitted by 24th April 2011.
This was revealed to the members of the media by Hotsound Studios, head honcho, Muhamad Bin Ahmad Husni, at a press conference held yesterday afternoon at their studio. Joining him at the event was, co organiser U-MZK's general manager Kamaluddin Raffie Bin Haji Ismail and Hotsounds' audio engineer Ahmad Zahid Bin Khalid. All three are also the panel of judges for the competition, with a surprise guest judge, expected to join the trio in the finals.
Competing bands can perform in any language or any genre, and will be expected to present either an original composition or a cover song (medleys included) within the given time of six minutes. There will also be a further surprise task for bands that make it to the semi finals this year, as the event organisers are looking at raising the bar for all contenders. Bands will be judged not only on their performances, entertainment value, crowd interaction, but also on their musicianship and technical proficiency. The organisers are expecting the bands to be a lot more prepared and to display a higher degree of discipline and quality in their performances.
Although a recording contract is not part of the prize, the organisers may consider working with the winner if it has all the right credentials and the X-Factor required to making it in the industry.
The competition is organised by Hotsound Music Studios, U-MZK & ZES.
