Faizal Tahir ¡V The Real Thing
It¡¦s coming to crunch time again, and just ONE will be the One In A Million. The others may or may not have an opportunity to develop their careers further but that¡¦s another story. So who do I think truly deserves the title of OIAM? That¡¦s easy enough to say but whether he will achieve it remains to be seen. All I can do is elaborate why I think he deserves it. Faizal Tahir that is ¡V just in case you are still wondering who I am talking about.
The most compelling reason I feel that Faizal deserves it more than the others is simply because he is the one that has put absolutely the most effort and taken all the risks to achieve his ambitions, and wants it more than anybody else in this competition as can evidently be seen. I also feel that he has the most discipline, responsibility & passion to do something truly remarkable with the reward, should he win it. I am almost certain that he will not disappoint those who voted him in, by churning out something truly spectacular with his prize. Faizal is the only one that has been consistently original week after week and has no qualms taken on the challenges posed to him. It¡¦s true that not all his performances have been mind blowing, but we cannot fault him for ever lacking effort or commitment. We can however blame him on occasions for over trying ¡V which is not really a bad thing. The most important thing is that Faizal is his own worst critic, and that augurs well for him. That is extremely important for an artiste wanting to make it big in this overly saturated industry full of mediocre reality talent school graduates.
Vocally, Faizal does have his limits, but he does have a decent enough tone for his intended genre. What sets him apart is that he is a highly charged and motivated individual who will guarantee his fans a high octane performance, every single time. I bet no one will go home disappointed after one of his concerts. I can almost see all the kryptonite sticks glowing in the dark, as he mesmerizes his fans with his unique blend of rock & theatrics. I can also imagine him having his best OIAM buddies Azfar, Alif & Lokman, alongside him playing out scenes from Star Wars complete with lightsabers, while the rock remixed theme song blasts out of the speakers. Nobody will be going home disappointed. He will deliver and deliver big time, over and over again.
But I know Faizal will have a hard time winning this competition as the rest of the contestants are also not lacking in talent. Suki is probably his biggest stumbling block and has legions of fans supporting her. For me, I still think she lacks the maturity & the discipline that is required for her to make something out of herself just yet. Good as she is, she has not delivered as consistently as we would want her too. For me she has only delivered just enough, but has not gone beyond. I also believe that her brand may not appeal beyond urban listeners in Malaysia. She has a lot of potential, no doubt about that, but I don¡¦t think she is ready to handle the sudden limelight and the discipline required to manage it. Nevertheless, Suki stands the highest chance of winning OIAM simply because she is extremely popular and has been riding the wave ever since she got into OIAM. Nothing wrong with that but I still believe it¡¦s too early for her
The other stumbling block for Faizal is of course, the well established Dayang, who has a sizeable fan base herself. Dayang is a decent enough singer, but she has been hardly original, from day one, and as Paul Moss put it ¡§delivering on expectations only¡¨. Nothing can be truer. The only difference this competition will do for Dayang is making her a million ringgit richer. That¡¦s it. I don¡¦t expect her to do anything different from what she is already doing right now even with a million ringgit in hand. She is not gonna make any big breakaways whether overseas, regionally or even locally. She is not even gonna make a dent into, Siti Nurhaliza, the number 1 diva in the country, even with so much money. But, Dayang does have an even chance of winning, what with her enamored fan base, and having enough financial clout to even vote for herself substantially (that¡¦s one of the reasons I strongly opposed her being able to earn additional wages while still being in the competition). She also has opposition as clearly can be seen, as she ended up in the bottom 3 last week. Perhaps her fans were not entirely happy with her recent escapades or her new found ¡§sexy¡¨ outlook. Or it could be just the work of saboteurs who don¡¦t wanna see her win this. Whatever, it may be, Dayang is resilient enough to win this, but I personally think Faizal just deserves this, a lot more than Dayang.
The dark horse of the competition is, of course, Alif, who has miraculously remained on course for the golden pot. This talented young man of 16 has been slowly gaining loyalty from his ever-growing fan base thanks to the strong support & lobbying of his family & friends. His energetic performances, although not always incredible, and occasionally clumsy, has still gone down well with the viewers. With his humility, unbridled charm and addictive charisma to boot, it¡¦s not impossible to see him actually surprising everybody and winning this competition as well. Who doesn¡¦t love Alif Satar? I think Alif has loads of talent and will be someone to be reckoned with in time to come, but, having fun on stage right now is just enough for me to allow him to walk away with a million ringgit, just yet. With or without it, I am certain, we will still be hearing big things from him, in the near future.
So it boils down to who is actually gonna win it, and who really deserves the money and will make it worth our while for them to do so. Frankly this is a no brainer. Almost everyone knows Suki will win this hands down. Not even Dayang will be able to stop it. For me, it really comes down to who really earned it, needs it, deserves it and will truly do justice to the reward and make us all be truly proud in the long run. No doubt all of them deserve it for just getting so far, but ONE does deserve it more than the others. Last Friday, Paul Moss (who is a big fan of Suki) said to Faizal Tahir, ¡§you are the Real Thing¡¨. I have to totally agree with him. After all, I will never ever drink no other cola other than Coke. ¡§It¡¦s the Real Thing.¡¨ And so is Faizal Tahir.
