News Release: Sony Music Malaysia
(NEW YORK – September 29, 2010) Santana’s brand new album GUITAR HEAVEN…THE GREATEST GUITAR CLASSICS OF ALL TIMES (ARISTA) enters the Billboard’s Top 200 Album at #5 this week.
Celebrating this chart debut, Santana joins the ranks of the Rolling Stones as the only musical act in chart history to score at least one Top 10 album in every decade beginning with the 1960s. GUITAR HEAVEN…is Santana’s 29th Billboard Top 200 charting release, 12th Top 10 album debut and third Top 10 debut in the past 5 years. Santana’s charting success extends across the globe and claims top positions on album charts in New Zealand (#2), Canada (#3), Australia (#5), Austria (#5), Germany (#10), France (#11), and the UK (#15).
GUITAR HEAVEN… was produced by Howard Benson, Matt Serletic, Clive Davis and Carlos Santana who devised a list of guitar-centric titles – and then invited a Who’s Who of guest vocalists to perform on every track. Singers range from Chris Cornell (on Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love”), India.Arie and Yo Yo Ma (on the album’s first single “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”), Pat Monahan (on Van Halen’s “Dance the Night Away”), Chester Bennington and Ray Manzarek (on The Doors’ “Riders on the Storm”), Rob Thomas (on Cream’s “Sunshine Of Your Love), Scott Weiland (on the Rolling Stones’ “Can’t You Hear Me Knockin’”), Chris Daughtry (on Def Leppard’s “Photograph”), Gavin Rossdale (on T. Rex’s “Bang A Gong”) to rapper Nas (on AC/DC’s “Back In Black”), veteran Joe Cocker (on Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing”), and more.
Santana kicked off the album launch with an Arista and Clive Davis-hosted VIP launch event in Las Vegas on August 25th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino with an album presentation and a star-studded concert at Santana’s residency show at “The Joint” where India.Arie, Chris Daughtry, and Gavin Rossdale joined Santana on stage to perform songs from GUITAR HEAVEN….
On top of album release week, Santana performed the album’s first single “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” with guest vocalist India.Arie on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” a three song appearance on the musical premiere of this season’s “Dancing With The Stars” (marking the show’s most watched season premiere ever) on album release day, as well as a two night stint on “Lopez Tonight.” Tune in tonight to see Santana spotlighted on ABC Nightline’s “Playlist.” Santana also enjoyed online listening events and features on AOL Music, Clear Channel sites, MSN Music, Pandora, VEVO, and Yahoo!
