About Judimar Hernandez
Dancer, teacher and choreographer Judimar thrills both contemporary dance critics and theatre enthusiasts in equal measure. She defines her inimitable styles a life experience, an encounter with herself and the artistes of the world. Her training combines the contemporary disciplines of Graham, Limon and Cunningham with those of the Far east, such as traditional Balinese and classical Indian dance.
Born and raised in Venezuela, Judimar¡¦s love for dance was brought out at an early age. As her passion grew beyond the boundaries and limitations of her surroundings, the urgency to explore and to communicate, to find freedom, became her goal. In her continuous strive for satisfaction, her philosophy is to ¡§feel the dance from inside¡¨, ¡§if it¡¦s not that way,¡¨ she says, ¡§then nothing will move you.¡¨
Judimar has choreographed and performed in a multitude of winning productions for Five Arts centre, RiverGrass Dance Theatre, Shakti Dancers, Sutra Dance Theatre and The Actors Studio. She lectured on modern and contemporary dance at Akademi Seni Kebangsaan (National Arts Academy) for three years until 2000.
Judimar has performed in National/International Dance festivals in Thailand, Germany, Philippines, Hong Kong, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, Venezuela, and Malaysia.
Judimar is a winner of the Malaysian BOH Cameronian Arts Award 2002 for Best Group Ensemble under the dance category for her choreography CURFEW!, and also was nominated the same year as best solo performer for her solo ¡§REFUGIO¡¨ and best choreographer for CURFEW!. She was nominated as best solo dancer for the Malaysia BOH Cameronian Arts Awards 2003.
