The inaugural Consumer's Choice Award (CCA) 2020-21 which was organised by the Selangor State National Action Council (MTPN), saw 42 companies or brands being presented with consumer choice awards, at the awards ceremony which was held at the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel last Thursday morning.
All 42 winners received their awards from Guest of Honour YB Dato’ Rosol Bin Wahid, the Deputy Minister for Local Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) at the three-hour-long event. He was accompanied by YBhg Dato' Gavin Voon, Chairman, Selangor State National Action Council (MPTN).
The winners were selected from close to two hundred nominations through a strict validation process to ensure credibility and trust. They consisted of B2B and B2C businesses from various industries that included beauty, education, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, law and F&B. A large number of them are also franchise businesses operating throughout Malaysia.
"After doing thorough research and following strict guidelines, we found that only 42 companies out of 192 nominees met the criteria to receive the Selangor MTPN CCA award", explained Dato Voon in his opening address.
Among the VIPs attending the awards ceremony were YBhg. Dr Goh Cheng Soon, Director, Traditional & Complementary Medicine Division. Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM), YBhg. Tuan Ali Bin Suhaili, Director of the Selangor State Information Department, YBhg. Dato’ Paduka Dr. Kevy KV. Yeo, National President of Consumer Action Council and Darren Soo, Deputy Chairman of Selangor’s National Consumer Action Council (MTPN).
The Selangor MTPN CCA Award was created to help consumers identify businesses that prove superior customer service, integrity, thoroughness, and professionalism. It is very unique and different from other award programs because the Selangor State MTPN's charter is focused on defending consumer rights and has good relations with the Selangor State KPDNHEP and also the Malaysian Consumer Claims Tribunal (TTPM). Through this relationship, the Director of KPDNHEP Selangor, YBrs. Tuan Muhamad Zikril had agreed to be an Honorary Adviser to MTPN Selangor. With this, MTPN Selangor and KPDNHEP Negeri Selangor have collaborated to create a "Zero Complaint" certification program for the very first time to ensure that businesses are not involved in fraudulent activities.
"Selangor has proposed to work with government agencies to launch consumer industry initiatives and education models to increase the awareness of consumers and traders on legitimate business practices," added Dato' Voon. "I hope all recipients of the Selangor MTPN CCA award will always ensure that the price of goods is reasonable and provide services that excel and meets the satisfaction of their consumers," he concluded to thunderous applause from the attending recipients.
MTPN Selangor which was formed in March 2020, aims to roll out more education models for each industry within the next year in order to be able to give insight to entrepreneurs and consumers on the qualifications these businesses should possess. These businesses will be guided on standard operating procedures, legal business procedures, and such.
They plan on taking the CCA MTPN Selangor to greater heights next year by introducing industry-based award ceremonies on a quarterly sequence. Being held 4 times a year, the CCA MTPN Selangor will be hosting the awards specifically to different groups of industries for each quarter. They will also begin instilling online voting which will bring consumers forward to vote on their favourite brands and products. This will also act as a form of testimonial feedback from the consumers. With online voting in place in the near future, the winning companies are not only validated by the Government and MTPN Selangor but most importantly, by the people.
