COVID-19 Status Update (4.00 pm, 25/5/2020)STARTLING LEAP IN COVID-19 CASES AMONG ILLEGALS IN DETENTION CENTRES Story: Dragon Visuals: Kementerian Kesihatan MalaysiaA massive leap in new COVID-19 cases with 172 reported within the last 24 hours, mostly involving foreign detainees from Immigration Detention Depots in Bukit Jalil (65 with 1 local administrative staff), Sepang (29) and Semenyih (17), and from a new construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur which amounts to 44 new cases. One more new case was reported from the Persidangan Gereja cluster in Sarawak while 5 cases among those who had returned from abroad were reported today, taking the cumulative total to 7,417 cases. Only 34 cases were discharged today, with the total active cases currently being treated leaping to 1,323, with 8 in ICU and 4 on respirators. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported today. Those tested positive for COVID-19 at the immigration detention centres will be placed at the quarantine centre at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). The facility has been updated with additional security personal and been cordoned off with barbed wire to prevent escape.
