COVID-19 Status Update Malaysia (4.00 pm, 29/4/2020)INFECTED MALAYSIANS RETURNING FROM INDONESIA SEND NEW COVID-19 CASES SPIKING UPStory: Dragon Visuals: Kementerian Kesihatan MalaysiaThere was a spike of new COVID-19 cases yesterday due to the rise in imported cases arising from Malaysian students returning from Indonesia. Oof the total of 94 cases reported yesterday, 72 were recorded as imported cases. Only 22 were locally transmitted. The sudden surge pushed the number of active cases up to 1,759, as only 55 were discharged from the hospital yesterday. 40 of the hospitalised patients are in ICU while 18 are on respirators. Thankfully no new deaths were reported yesterday. Of the 5,945 cumulative cases, 226 are imported. Thanks to the strict border controls in place and the compulsory quarantine of returning of Malaysian travellers, the spread of imported COVID-19 strains has been well curbed.
