ACTIVE COVID-19 CASES KEEP TUMBLING AS STRICT MCO MEASURES & COORDINATED HEALTHCARE SERVICES TAKE EFFECT

The number of active COVID-19 cases keeps tumbling down with 31 new cases recorded yesterday. 1719 cases are being treated in hospitals nationwide, with 36 still remaining in ICU and 17 on respirators. Unfortunately, a 67-year-old man who was being treated for COVID-19 at the Sungai Buloh Hospital succumbed to his illness, taking the death toll to 100. He was diabetic, had hypertension and heart disease, and went through a stroke previously. Our sincerest condolences to his loved ones.
Kuala Lumpur still recorded the most number of new cases at 14, with Kuching recording 8 and Selangor at 5. Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Johore and Sabah reported 1 new case each. The EMCO hotspots of Pusat Bandar Utara Kuala Lumpur had 5 new cases with Menara City One Plaza and Selangor Mansion in Masjid India reporting just 1 each. None was reported at Malayan Mansion, or at any other EMCO hotspots.
Four new cases were reported from the Persidangan Gereja cluster in Sarawak, with the Sarawak Healthcare Workers and Pasar Chowkit clusters reporting 1 new case each. Ten new cases were reported from imported cases arising from Malaysian travellers who had returned and are currently inturned at quarantine centres.
On a positive note, 75 patients were discharged yesterday with no reinfections being reported from those that have already been discharged, marking a 68.91% (4,032) recovery rate from the total number of infections (5,841) recorded thus far. Fatalities are at 1.71%.
Due to the strict MCO measures being taken and well-coordinated healthcare services, the overall outlook is starting to look positive. But the pandemic is far from over and Malaysians need to continue to be vigilant and not get complacent.
