Story: Dragon Visuals: Majlis Keselamatan Negara
A total of 1128 students from universities were allowed to return back to their hometowns from their university hostels and rented residences from the Central Zone to the Northern Zone and vice versa to a total of 17 destinations last night, through special arrangements made by the National Safety Council (MKN) during the COVID-19 Movement Control Order (MCO) enforcement. A total of 863 students from the Central Zone were despatched up North while another 265 were returned from the North to the Central Zone using a total of 49 buses. The students who were sent home has to follow strict standard operating procedures (SOP) throughout the entire exercise which kicked off at 8.00 pm from the Central Zone.
The buses transporting the students were only allowed to stop for toilet breaks at R&R stops along the way, and no food breaks were allowed throughout the journey. Special food packages were made available to the students by sponsors Mary Brown and Gardenia. Social distancing was strictly enforced in all buses, with 2 passengers per row separated by two empty seats. The buses were only allowed to take on just half their standard operating capacity. The students were allowed to be picked up by just one family member in a car once the buses arrived at their respective destinations. For those who did not have any onward transportation, the frontliners at the pre-fixed destinations were assigned to send them home. The buses had to undergo detailed sanitization before returning with students from the north. This was to ensure the safety of all concerned.
Students heading to Sabah & Sarawak will start returning from 1st May 2020.
