There has been a significant drop in new cases with 36 being registered yesterday, but the Malaysia Ministry of Health's Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah would very much like to see it reduced to single digits within a week. Although the numbers of patients under their care is dropping with more being discharged on a daily basis, the pandemic is far from over. Dr Noor Hisham believes we may only be free from the virus a year from now in 2021.
98 patients were discharged yesterday bringing down the number of the active cases in the hospitals to 2041, with 45 in ICU and 28 on respirators. So far 3295 cases or 60% of admitted patients have been discharged with no reinfections reported. Thankfully no deaths were reported yesterday, maintaining the total number of deaths to 89.
No new infections were reported in Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Perak, Terengganu, Kelantan and Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan in the 24 hours leading to 12.00 pm yesterday. The highest number of new cases was 13 as registered in Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya.
Further complete lockdowns (EMCO) were ordered in Pusat Bandar Utara and areas surrounding Pasar Borong Kuala Lumpur (Selayang) as of 12.00 am yesterday. taking the total lockdown areas to ten.
13,277 test samples were taken at the EMCO localities with 796 positive cases registered thus far. A total of 5 deaths were reported, 4 from Bandar Baru Ibrahim Majid and 1 from Menara Plaza City One.
Although it looks like we are slowly pulling out of this pandemic, we still need to be absolutely vigilant until we are totally free.
