Selangor Fashion Week (SFW) held it's very first model search competition entitled The Next Look to uncover new talents in the modelling industry and to give these hopefuls the opportunity to walk the runway at the well-received platform which will be holding several runway shows throughout the year in 2020.
More than 100 aspiring models from various categories turned up on the first day of the 2-day audition sessions which was held at Da Men Mall on 14th & 15th March 2020, just a few days short of the Movement Control Order which kicked off on 18th March 2020. All necessary health precautions were taken during the auditions in accordance with the guidelines and recommendations that were issued by the government during that period. Those who were unable to make it during that weekend were still given the opportunity to try out via video casting.
Unfortunately due to the sudden escalation of the Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia and with the Movement Control Order in effect, the spring edition of the Selangor Fashion Week and all relevant The Next Look external activities scheduled for March and April had to be postponed indefinitely. Training programs for the models who make the cut will, however, take place online, until it's safe to do so otherwise.
The esteemed panel of judges on the first day included Mrs Fitness Globe 2018, Mrs Malaysia Globe 2018, Super Model Universe Malaysia National Director & Target Fitness PJ founder Ammetta Malhotra, ARP Elite Models director Evelyn Nadal, Super Model Universe 2019 Thalia Then, SFW co-founder Nicole Fe Lyne, Malaysian elite model and entrepreneur Sharwita Wita, medical doctor & elite model Dr Tiya Hayatie and Rentak Sejuta's managing editor Kumaraguru Olaganathan (a.k.a.Dragon).
Seen here are some of the model hopefuls who tried out on 14th March, along with the organisers and some of the partners, sponsors and selection judges.
The fashion week and model search competition is organised by Miss Malaysia Kebaya Organisation and co-organised by ARP Elite Models, Super Model Universe Malaysia and Rentak Sejuta.
The highly successful Selangor Fashion Week was first presented over two days in late 2019 and saw the participation of 23 Malaysian fashion designers and more than 100 models that included elite models, petite models, mature models, beauty queens, kids models, celebrity models, wheelchair-bound models and models with differences. It was planned, organised and executed, from concept to conclusion, in a phenomenal 30 days. This year will see the platform being presented in four seasonal runway shows with an international conclusion towards the end of the year.
Despite the gloomy outlook for the industry due to the pandemic that is gripping the nation, the Selangor Fashion Week organising team who are made up of industry veterans from various fields, are determined to make it another roaring success in 2020.
MMK & SFW founder Dr Jason Hee had this to say, "The fashion, modelling and its ancillary industries would have taken a severe beating over the next few months. We hope that SFW with its many dedicated and capable partners can be a catalyst to jump-start the industry, and set the stage for a brighter future for the nation ".
Sharing similar sentiments, Rentak Sejuta's Managing Editor & SFW co-organiser Dragon concluded, "We have been supporting and collaborating with MMK since 2011. They have had their ups and downs but have always been resilient throughout, and have always found ways to deliver even when it was considered impossible. With strong and credible partners supporting them, 2020 might just see them become the game-changers in the industry. Just stay tuned!!!"
