Musicians For Musicians Benefit Concert 2020 @ Mines International Exhibition & Convention Centre, Level 2, Jalan Dulang, Mines Wellness City, Seri Kembangan, Selangor (15/3/2020)
The star-studded Musicians for Musicians Benefit Concert 2020 - labelled “A Concert to Heal” - is in aid of musicians engulfed in misery.
The eight-hour concert on 15 March 2020 begins 3pm at the Mines International Exhibition & Convention Centre.
Tickets priced at RM 100.00 each and from RM 5,000 for a table of 10 will be on sale from 2 January 2020 by AirAsia RedTix.
The concert will showcase 30 eclectic acts comprising some 100 musicians who had performed at celebrated clubs, hotels and pubs in the 1970s and 1980s.
Targeting 5,000 young and elder music lovers, the event will be the biggest reunion of Malaysia’s top bands, duos and soloists from those golden eras.
It is an initiative of Musicians for Musicians, the engine of Persatuan Pemuzik Tempatan Selangor (PPTS), a newly formed not-for-profit association spearheaded by professionals driven by a love for music and a sense of duty and caring.
PPTS that has a nationwide membership – with an annual fee of RM 50.00 - hopes to raise RM 500,000 from the fundraiser toward its goal to change and refresh the lives of desperate musicians.
The gripping stories of distressed musicians tell of passionate careers and creative triumphs interrupted by illnesses, mishaps, age-related conditions, family tragedies, homelessness and genuine poverty.
Event patron Tan Sri Syed Yusof Syed Nasir Syed Yusof said he would assist PPTS to engage the Ministry of Health to explore ways to provide musicians – including the current crop - medical aid including health insurance.
He also offered to initiate discussions with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government on housing assistance for homeless musicians.Tan Sri Syed Yusof hoped Tourism Malaysia would respond positively to PPTS’ request to include the concert in the Visit Malaysia 2020 calendar as it was one facet of the country’s rich cultural and music heritage.
He said he was confident the concert will relay the message of love and hope loud for others, not just musicians. “When love and hope manifest, it does wonders for the world and humanity,” he said.
Love and hope can inspire a turning point and offer a second chance to those in need, he said. PPTS president and organising committee chairman Francis Danker said: “The concert is part of our efforts to help performers in clubs, hotels and pubs to live an independent life, enjoy a decent standard of living and help them sustain their creative lives.
“In our mission to change the lives of helpless musicians, we will ensure only deserving cases benefit from the fund governed by a dedicated panel. ”Danker mooted the idea for the Musicians for Musicians festival more than a year ago on a platform of self-reflection and togetherness to serve the greater good musicians in distress through celebration.
“The selfless spirit of the performers, including 10 living abroad, who are taking time off to reunite with bands that they were with in the 70s and 80s, is exemplary. “The generosity of sponsors and voluntarism of PPTS members speak volumes of their heartwarming compassion and kindness toward the cause,” he said.
