KUALA LUMPUR: 8TV’s One in a Million talent reality show will see a tough battle between established recording artistes and newcomers.
Rakan BH
The spotlight will be on Dayang Nurfaizah of NSR Records. With four albums and a string of hits such as Bahtera, Bahagia and Seandainya Masih Ada Cinta, she looks to be among the front-runners.
The others are Jim of X-Factor (KRU Records), Billy and Nine of Phyne Ballerz (KRU Records), Shahirah (NSR), former EMI artistes Norfatimah and Alia, Alif (Luncai Emas), Malaysian Idol II’s second runner-up Farah and third runner-up Faizull.
Dayang’s entry in the reality show was a surprise as she has very much established herself in the music industry.
Recently, she signed a contract to act in a RM3 million Malaysian-Indonesian film, Luka. The film, which also features top Indonesian actress, Dian Sastrowardoyo, is undertaken by Kuala Lumpur’s Lukafilms and Jakarta’s Sinemart.
The singer who sang Where Do Broken Hearts Go? for her audition last Sunday, said of her attempt: “I wish to take my career to another level. One in A Million winner has the chance to pursue an international career.”
One in a Million will award its top winner RM1 million. 8TV will also help launch the winner internationally.
A total of 5,240 hopefuls — 4024 from Kuala Lumpur and 1216 from Kota Kinabalu — went for the One in a Million recent auditions in both places. Musician Paul Moss and vocal instructor cum artiste Syafinaz served as judges.
Eighty-nine candidates were picked, from which 20 would be shortlisted for the semi-finals. Only 12 will make it to the finals.
The show will be aired on 8TV every Friday at 9.30pm from May 26 to Sept 22.
