The Miri Country Country Music Fest 2019 (MCMF), happening 22-23 November at Coco Cabana Miri, is set to feature performers from Australia, United Kingdom, Germany and more as well as lucky draw prizes including return MASwing tickets for two to Mulu.
This year’s MCMF performers include Dolly Parton Tribute Act – Diamond Dolly from the UK, Johnny Cash Experience from Germany, Fields from Australia, Joe Ferdinands F&F (Singapore), Os Pombos (Kuala Lumpur), The Casual Ceilidh Band (Brunei) and more.
Already in its 6th year, MCMF has been deemed the first international country and western music festival in Malaysia and said to be the only one of its kind in the region. MCMF has not only featured music performances but also music workshops before the 2-night concerts and other activities for the whole family to enjoy, making it a family-friendly event that caters to all ages. Local vendors are carefully sourced to create a bazaar of unique food & beverage items, souvenirs and locally made crafts, in an effort to support and give local small businesses a place to promote their products.

Born and raised musicians from the Lower Rhine in Germany, the band The Johnny Cash Experience have dedicated to the sound of American country legend, Johnny Cash – giving those who did not get to see the real Johnny Cash live, a chance to participate in the musical experience of a lifetime.
Taking their name as inspired by the authentic sound of the “Man in Black” himself, the band’s music is venerably calling to mind of many of his greatest hits.
With Marco Lodemann on drums and MARKUS DÜNKELMANN on bass, they make up the illustrative “Boom Chicka Boom Sounds” of the early Sun Records era while on the other hand, THORSTEN STEINMANN sets the accents with his guitars and frontman Joe Sander rises above the poignant performance with his deep bass baritone, coming very close to the original country superstar. Through the endorsements of famous instrument makers, a legion of enthusiastic concertgoers as well as the release of 4 albums namely, “Home of The Blues”, “Memories Are Made Of This”, “Hit the Road and Go”, and “Live At Prison”, the band blazed through their musical path.

Fields is a high energy Alt Celtic Folk Singer Songwriter , originally from Ireland , now living in Perth .
With top 100 ITunes and International songwriter competition semi finalist single Neverland, followed by Promises and title track Gracefield Avenue from her Debut EP released in April 2019 Fields has had a busy first year as a soloist.
Recently supporting Steve Smyth , Daniel Champagne , Shaun Kirk and Irish band Hermitage Green, Fields is making waves National and Internationally, having toured around WA , and taking a trip to Ireland in 2018 to play some headline shows and festivals, Fields will be expanding her travels in 2019 with a European tour.
The Casual Ceilidh Band - Europe / Brunei
The Casual Ceilidh Band was formed in 2014 by a group of expats living and working in Brunei. Originally created to cater to the local Scottish community in Brunei, they played Celtic and Scottish Ceilidh dance music in social and community events. Although band members have changed throughout the years, they continue to grow and evolve from being a 4-piece instrumental band to a 7-piece band that includes vocals. Today, plays not only Celtic music but also country and contemporary music. Among the unique instruments used are penny whistle, flute, bass, keyboard, ukulele, drums and mandolin. Today, the band still has its roots in Celtic music, often playing at local Scottish and Irish events in Brunei such as St Patrick’s night, however its repertoire has developed into an extremely eclectic mix including contemporary dance and rock, as well as country music. The current line up comes from as far as the UK, the USA, Slovakia, the Netherlands and New Zealand, embracing a diverse mix of backgrounds and musical influences. The band has played numerous gigs across Borneo, including both Brunei and Malaysia, and has even had the privilege of playing for Brunei’s Royal Wedding Celebrations as well as the Miri Country Music Festival back in 2017. Due to popular demand, they are set to return to the MCMF stage this year!
Joe Ferdinands F&F - Singapore
Joe Ferdinands is a familiar name with MCMF, having performed and emceed at the festival since it’s inauguration. With almost 50 years of experience and a bagful of achievements and accolades, Joe is recognised as one of the most established country singers in the region. Joe is back at MCMF 2018 and again, this year to perform with one of his line-ups, F&F.
Os Pombos - Malaysia
Os Pombos, a band created in 1978, first started getting recognition after having been a hotel band playing a mixture of pop, Latin, calypso and rock and roll and during that era they were known as the only Malaysian ‘strolling’ band. They later transformed into a full-fledged country and western band and received many invitations to perform all around West Malaysia. Along the years they have also set up and performed at their own pubs, Longhorn and Country Barn, before moving on to other ventures. Among their achievements are getting to open for international names such as Kenny Rogers, Freddy Fender, Skeeter Davies and even travelling to perform in Singapore, Canada and Australia. To date, Os Pombos is the only country band to record and release an album called Prime Cuts under BMG Music Malaysia, with 3 of its songs becoming instant hits on national radio – East of Nashville, Hurt Me No More and Angel Eyes. With 3 decades of experience in the industry, they still actively perform for private events and special functions to this date. Deemed as the Alabama of Asia by their followers, the band shall return to MCMF for the 3rd time to once again wow their long-time fans in East Malaysia!
Lost Soulz - Miri, Sarawak
The band was formed in April 2018 with members from various bands with different musical backgrounds and experience. The main music genre is classic rock and music from 60’s,70’s 80’s and beyond. They perform mostly in local pubs in the city and occasional private functions.
The band’s current lineup are; Eugene Cox (guitars/vocals), Edmound Jr. (bass guitar/vocals), Awg. Bolkiah Awg. Hamdan (guitars), Wailyn Rimbar (keyboards) and Nazzrueldin Mohamad(drums/vocals). All members have at one time or another performed in the Borneo/Miri Jazz fests. and Miri Country fests.
Frankie and His Music Machine - Miri, Sarawak
Frankie started in 1963 in Penang at age 16 where he learned how to play the guitar and joined a band called the Flamingoes. From there he moved to Brunei in 1966 and continued playing with various bands until he retired to Miri, Sarawak, in 2009. Since then, he has played in the club circuits as well as playing at various venues, functions and weddings.
Presently he prefers performing country music as it is very popular with the locals with strong following around the pubs namely Island Dreams and Basecamp. He performed mainly solo with his music machine, hence the name. His recent performances were in Sibu, Kuching, Long Lama, Ulu Tiru, and Bario during last year’s fruit festival.
Midnite Busker - Miri, Sarawak
From performing on the streets to functions and events in the small city of Miri, the Midnite Buskers have come a long way to being the only band in Miri to register under the Malaysian Buskers Club in Kuala Lumpur. Their band name, Midnite Buskers, which consists of six members, came about when they first started performing every Friday and Saturday nights til late midnight. Their ability to play different genres of music, whether it is old or new songs, they dare to call themselves the pioneer buskers in the city of Miri.
