Internationally award winning Malaysian film director Yasmin Ahmad, better known for her Sepet, Gubra & Talentime movies, is currently warded in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at The Damansara Specialist Centre after suffering from a stroke. She is currently reported to be in a stable but critical condition.
Yasmin was attending a meeting at TV3's Sri Pentas along with pop star Datuk Siti Nurhaliza & husband Datuk Khalid Jiwa, when she felt unwell and lost consciousness after experiencing breathing difficulties, at about 4.30pm today. Datuk Siti, who is the ambassador for the Red Crescent Society immediately tried to resuscitate her by administering CPR, along with Dr Rohaya Ramli, a TV3 panel doctor who was in the building.
After failing to revive her, she was immediately rushed to the ICU at the Damansara Specialist Centre which is located nearby, where resident doctors managed to stabilise her before performing emergency surgery at about 6pm to reduce the swelling in her brain.
According to her brother in law, Datuk Dr Zakaria Zahari, Yasmin is in critical condition and her heart is being sustained by drugs to regulate her blood pressure. She is currently being monitored and is expected to undergo further surgery.
The family has requested that people refrain from spreading rumours that Yasmin has passed away.
More on this shortly. Stay tuned.
