Finalists send fans into frenzy

THE lobby of the TM Net headquarters in Cyberjaya was strangely quiet on a recent morning.
But the scene underwent an amazing transformation within half-and-hour with several hundred frenzied fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of their One In A Million (OIAM) favourite finalists.
The reality talent show by 8TV hit our TV screens a few months ago and has a faithful following. Much like the Malaysian Idol, one more finalist is eliminated after each round with fans casting their votes via SMS.
The OIAM finalists’ appearance in Cyberjaya was part of their Meet the Fans segment including a stop at the Gurney Plaza Mall in Penang. Fans turnout in Cyberjaya proved the success of the show, which headed for a finale in September.

In her welcoming remarks prior to performances by OIAM finalists, TM Net Sdn Bhd marketing general manager Zainab Hashim encouraged fans to surf the micro site on BlueHyppo.
“The site carries repeat OIAM shows, behind-the-scenes segments, forums and downloads. The OIAM Fan Contest offers weekly, monthly and grand prizes with the golden chance for someone to catch the grand finale at the PWTC on Sept 23,” she said.
“To-date, an accumulative five million viewers have watched OIAM episodes while the BlueHyppo micro site has also enjoyed a similar number of hits. The site is also watched by Malaysians overseas,” added Zainab.
Following a short quiz offering tickets to the live OIAM shows in Shah Alam, the nine finalists took to the stage to thrill the crowd further.
Seventeen-year-old Low Sook Yee who went by the nickname Suki was obviously the crowd favourite.

The Seremban lass wowed the crowd with her powerful vocals during a rendition of Alanis Morissette’s You Oughta Know.
Given the large number of teenaged female fans, finalists like Shahmeen Shah Halim Shah (Ameen), 16, Muhammad Alif Mohd Satar (Aliff), 16, and Mohd Lokman Aslam Abdul Mutalip (Lokman), 19, did not have any trouble working their charm.
A few of the finalists like Alif Asfar Ishak (Azfar) and Noor Hasliah Abu Hassan (Aliya) are singers with Alif having one album to his credit.
Noor Hasliah’s experience on stage shone through her interaction with the audience and she even got a fan to sing along.
Equally popular were Zaihanee Zainal Abidin (Zai) - a cook from Alor Star, Kedah, Faizal Tahir (Faizal) - a musician and Farah Asyikin Zulkifli (Farah) who all sang English hits.
After their performances, the finalists joined TM Net management staff to unveil exclusive TM Net One In A Million prepaid cards.
The finalists later hosted the Cakap Je chat session with their fans
