TAPAUfest 2021 @ Online (30/10/2021)
When: 10.00 am - 12.00 am, Saturday, 30th October 2021
THE FIGHTING SPIRIT OF INDIE CREATORS IN THREE COUNTRIES MANIFEST IN TAPAUfest
Despite the trials and tribulations faced in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the world almost two years ago, the fighting spirit of artists remain intact.
While having had to struggle to adapt to the demands of the new norms in their work, creativity and boldness to think and act outside the box in order to continue to survive has been key.
With the spirit of determination at its core, TAPAUfest offers an online festival experience in an effort to revive artistic endeavours that have stopped following the Movement Control Order (PKP).
Taking place on October 30, 2021 (Saturday), TAPAUfest brings together indie artists from three countries - Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia in a festival that brings communities together to say that #lifeislive.
Running for 14 hours from 10 am to 12 midnight (local time), TAPAUfest’ objective is to create an online festival experience by implementing the new norms, whilst still upholding a true festival atmosphere.
The organization of TAPAUfest indirectly strengthens regional ties. It brings together artists and supporters of the indie scene from these three countries as a community under the www.TAPAU.asia platform.
At the same time, the festival also creates collaborations and provides employment opportunities to the creative and indie communities who previously had to struggle to survive during the pandemic.
According to the organizers, TAPAUfest presents three main components - PENTAS (live music performance), BENGKEL (opportunity to learn new things live while the workshop is in progress) and LAYAR (live production premiere).
PENTAS promises a relaxing and interactive 14 hour experience featuring a great line-up of indie musicians from three countries.
While most online live performances feature pre-recorded content, TAPAUfest brings the audience a real experience of watching live performances by musicians performing from designated venues in their respective countries.
"We have a line-up of popular and established indie musicians from Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore from diverse music genres, including female representatives from each country," said Faris who is the Concert Director and representative of TAPAUasia Sdn. Bhd.
Malaysia features two big names who pioneered popularity in the indie music scene
-Plague of Happiness from Johor and Zee Avi. She holds the record as the first Malaysian to have an album listed in the US Billboard Hot 200 album chart and topped the Billboard Heatseekers chart.
Also representing Malaysia are popular underground band, No Good who just released their latest track, “Kayaba” and last year's Jeremy Award winner (Best New Indie Artist), TAPAUawards, Gard Wuzgut.
Amongst the biggest highlight of the festival is the legendary Singaporean musician, Force Vomit who is back to perform at TAPAUfest after a three year hiatus.
"Singapore is also represented by Subsonic Eye, the first Southeast Asian artist to appear in KEXP and Forest who made history as the first Asian band to have their song listed in the "100 Greatest Emo Songs" on Vulture.com" he said.
Meanwhile, Indonesia has lined up three big names, namely the legendary group, Sore, Fleur! (All women rock and roll trio) and a group fast gaining a place in the hearts of fans, The Panturas.
As a surprise, Sore will feature two special guests who will only be introduced during their performance.
'The location of the show in each country has its own attraction. This was realized with the cooperation of local indie partners, namely Qun Films” from Jakarta, MonoMonday (Singapore) and Krom Studio (Malaysia).
"Not limited to performances, artists are also encouraged to share stories and interact with each other and fans through live-chats" he said.
PENTAS will put to test the energy levels and prowess of Iedil Dzuhrie Alaudin (Iedil Putra) and Sharifah Amani who will be hosting and conducting the live broadcasts for a duration of 14 hours.
In addition to introducing the line -up of artists and performance segments, they will host live-chat sessions and handle intermission segments that offer a variety of prizes.
"Sharifah Amani will host the event live from a location in Malaysia, while Iedil will host it from Indonesia" he said.
TAPAUfest is not just a festival that presents a collection of performances, the organizers has also planned a WORKSHOP segment. This segment presents itself as an added value to the audience to enable them to gain new knowledge and skills.
‘The WORKSHOP session starts with “Breakfast For Champions” tutorial where Bagus “Gogon” from The Panturas (Indonesia) will teach the audience how to prepare a simple and scrumptious breakfast to attract the audience into the TAPAUfest zone.
“It will be followed by the appearance of graffiti artist, Boon Baked from Singapore who will conduct a tutorial on how to produce your own writing style through the Boon Letter Workshop.
“The session will also be enlivened with the appearance of Bear who is a member of the Metalcore group “Defoulters” from Malaysia. Bear will be facilitating an interesting 15 minutes tutorial on screaming and growling techniques" he said.
Meanwhile, through the LAYAR segment, the audience will be able to catch the live premiere of the Ipoh City Slackers documentary 'Indie Rock Kota Tua' directed by Nik Syazwan and assisted by Zim Ahmadi.
As a bonus, TAPAUfest also offers unique souvenirs, specially designed by GrimmyGranny (a talented female designer from Malaysia) and produced by Bogus Merchandise (which is also responsible for worldwide shipping).
These souvenirs are not just a memento, instead we want it to be part of the whole TAPAUfest experience. We will be producing limited edition TAPAUfest pyjamas (limited to 100 units) through the purchase of the SEMPOI Combo, which we believe will definitely add to the comfort of the audience enjoying the TAPAUfest trip.
Another of our product is Zine which includes a guide to the festival, articles written by Fikri Fadzil (Shadow, The Wknd), Adly Syairi Ramly and many more, colouring segments, and even a crossword puzzle (hints will be given by the host during the live broadcast) with a PS5 to be won.
“We have also brought back a set of playing cards or clap cards (from the betting shop) specially designed by GrimmyGranny as a souvenir and part of the interactive experience” said Farriz Izuan representing TAPAUasia Sdn. Bhd.
