MONSTA X CRUSHES KL WITH X-HILIRATING CONCERT

On June 20th 2019, South Korean boygroup Monsta X took Kuala Lumpur by storm at Stadium Melawati! Organised by Macpie Pro, the members of Monsta X charmed their way into 5000 dedicated Monbebe’s hearts.
Fans were waiting at the stadium for hours and hours, grinning and bearing through the heavy morning rain and the blistering afternoon heat. When it finally came to the start of the show, members I.M, Joohoney, Hyungwon, Kihyun, Minhyuk, and Shownu graced the stage with their dashing good looks and radical charisma. One member, Wonho, unfortunately could not make it as he was dealing with passport issues. His presence was felt in spirit by all the Monbebes in the audience, though!
The 6-piece took off with ‘Shoot Out’, a hard-hitting rock and EDM-infused track, followed by old but gold hits of theirs: ‘Hero’ and a rock version of ‘Trespass’. Fans were screaming, waving their lightsticks (called Moondongies) in the air, holding their banners up in support of the members.
The medley was then followed by ‘Party Time’ and Steve Aoki-produced track ‘Play It Cool’. Their suave moves flowed through them like water, dancing to every beat and hitting every note to perfection.
‘Mohae’ and ‘Jealousy’ were up next, which were definitely fan favourites. Even from as high as the fourth tier, fans could be seen dancing along to the complicated choreography and singing along in Korean!
It then came time for the unit stages. First up was a sensual performance by Hyungwon, Kihyun, and Minhyuk who performed a cover of ‘Myself’ by Bazzi. Donning suits and slicked-back hair, they enchanted fans with smooth vocals and sneaky smirks.
An intense rap unit came next, with Jooheon and I.M spitting fire to their song called ‘3HYTHM’, also known as ‘Triple Rhythm’ or ‘Sambakja’. They dressed up in what appeared to be regal-looking robes, interacting with the audience as the rapped.
As Wonho was unfortunately not in attendance, the members took the time to speak to the audience instead of the supposed unit with both Wonho and Shownu. They about how they plan to return to Malaysia soon, but as 7.
After sentimental words were spoken, they moved on to sweet ballads. They sang ‘Honestly’, ‘I Do Love You’, ‘Sweetheart’, ‘No Reason’, and ‘Myself’. Monbebes could feel the sincerity they had while pouring out their emotions in the lyrics, and tears were definitely shed by the audience.
After slow, tender songs were sang, the members started the party back up again. Hits like ‘Dramarama’, ‘Oh My!’, and ‘Special’ made the crowd leap out of their seats and jump up and down to the fast RPM, a sea of white lights from the lightstick illuminating the stadium with an ethereal glow.
Their fast-paced EDM hits ‘Fallin’’ and ‘Alligator’ were accompanied by the members not only dancing their heart out, but running up and down the stage to interact with fans too; waving to them and blowing kisses, beaming smiles, and sending love to everyone in attendance.
A special stage by H.ONE (Hyungwon) was next, dropping and DJ-ing some EDM beats for the audience to rave along to. Although there were slight malfunctions with the sound, the members and the audience had tons of fun chanting his name in support and dancing along to the tracks he DJ-ed to.
Before leaving the stage, Monsta X brought the energy up to an 11 out of 10 with ‘Rodeo’, another EDM tune with a fusion of Spanish elements. Fans gave it their all and a half, screaming their hearts out for the boys. Departing the stage, a chorus of “come back”, “encore”, and “Monsta X!” could be heard from the entire stadium, wanting just a snippet more and thus, the members came out donning their official tour shirts singing to ‘By My Side’, a melancholic, saccharine song to bid their farewells to Malaysian Monbebes, promising to return as 7. A curtain call was held, and that marked the end of the night and the end of the concert.
Overall, the members of Monsta X could always be seen enjoying themselves on stage by putting their best foot forward in order to give Monbebes a concert they’ll never forget. They made jokes, were themselves on stage, and even spoke English to the audience!
With teary eyes, fans were hit with a wave of realization that it was over, but filled with hope for their return in the near future. We can’t wait for them to make their grand comeback to Malaysia, but with 7 members in the audience next time!
