Daniel Powter "Giants" Live In Kuala Lumpur @ The Bee, 36B, Block C, Level G2, Publika, Solaris Dutamas, Jalan Dutamas 1, Kuala Lumpur (29/6/19)
In 2005, radio stations all over the world were playing this song as music lovers mouthed the lyrics in unison anytime it hit the soundwaves. This June 29, 2019, punters of pop rock and alternative rock will be able to catch Canadian musician, Daniel Powter live in Kuala Lumpur at The Bee and sing along, up close and personal, to his self-penned hit song “Bad Day”.
Charting at #1 in over 40 countries around the world, “Bad Day” was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts for five consecutive weeks and sold over 15 million copies, making it the best-selling digital single of all time in the United States. The hit was also recently certified as the second biggest radio hit in history around the world. Daniel won Juno awards and was nominated for Grammy and Brit awards for “Bad Day” and the debut album. “Bad Day” and “Free Loop,” another hit single from Daniel’s debut album, both received massive airplay in Greater China.
The man himself refers to his music as a little 'different from the norm'. Sure, songs like “Bad Day” don't sound that different when you listen casually at first. If anything, it sounds like well-crafted, edgy pop, boasting infectious rhythm, rock-solid chords and hooks that dig into your brain and don't let go. But listen again and you'll find that dark lyrics thread through those happy melodies, some of which he sings with a hint of sarcasm and anger tightening the quiver in his falsetto. He is an artist that focuses on everyday life, though he doesn't miss the dirt swept under society's rug.
In 2017, After a four year hiatus, Daniel released a single in the form of a rather funky pop tune “Delicious”. The song sees Powter using his fantastic, trademark vocal style but with a rather more synth-driven sound behind it and fans were more than excited to have him back.
In December of last year, Powter released his album ‘Giants’ combining eight of his most recent singles in one juicy EP. Songs in the album include Perfect for Me, Survivor, Delicious, re-recordings of Bad Day, Free Loop and Tell Them Who You Are with altered lyrics and tunes. A remixed version of Do You Want to Get Lucky is also included featuring extra bells and no vocal reverb.
To commemorate ‘Giants’, Powter returns to Asia on tour with his band, performing his songs, both new and old. In Daniel’s words, “Playing shows and having an audience engage and sing back to me the songs that I wrote are all the awards I would ever want. Meeting new people and traveling, and staying humble and grateful, rewards your soul.”
