"Haram" written by songwriters Hael Husaini & Ezra Kong, and performed by Hael and Dayang Nurfaizah emerged as the song of the year at the finals of Anugerah Juara Lagu 33 which was held at the packed Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, last night. The winning song won the trio the main trophy and RM50,000 in cash.
Coming in second for RM35,000 was Ara Johari's "Bunga" which was composed by Hang Nadim, Laq & Kadok, with lyrics by Hang Nadim. In third for RM20,000 was Misha Omar's "Sampai Bila", which was composed by Sharon Paul with lyrics by Fedtri Yahya & Shah Shamsiri.
Misha also took home the prize for Best Vocals of the night earning her prize money of RM12,000, while Sufian Suhaimi won for Best Performance for his emotional rendition of "Di Matamu". His effort saw him walk away with RM12,000 in cash, a trophy and a Samsung Galaxy A9 Quad camera smartphone. The Best Performance prizes were sponsored by #Samsung.
According to chief judge Azmeer, Haram was selected because of its innovative concept, clever music arrangement, strong melody and fresh approach to songwriting by the panel of judges this year. He also added that the variance between the top three songs was just in decimal points, but most of the judges preferred Haram.
Twelve songs competed during the prestigious finals which were hosted by last year's dynamic duo Sherry Al Hadad and Alif Satar.
Malaysia's most premiere music awards saw an overwhelming crowd of more than 6,700 music fans purchasing tickets to attend the three and half hour show and was brought to you by sponsors Samsung Galaxy A9 and KFC.
