Sarawak made history when it presented the 23rd Asian Television Awards at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) in Kuching last Saturday night. It was the very first time the prestigious awards show was hosted in Malaysia, and Kuching proved that it was more than capable of staging a world-class event of this magnitude. It was definitely money well spent by Sarawak's Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports in support of “Visit Sarawak 2019", as the eyes of the world were once more focused on the state that has so much "more to discover". Although 16 highly sought after awards were presented on Saturday night at the main awards ceremony and another 28 were presented during the Gala Dinner the night before, Sarawak and its beautiful people were the ultimate winners. The glamorous event was graced by Sarawak's Chief Minister YB Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Abang Haji Openg, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Tourism Minister YB Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.
“The ATA was a huge success and I am proud to be a part this prestigious event. We hope that all the visitors to Sarawak had an amazing night and have been able to discover Sarawak’s natural beauty. I am also excited for the public concert which will be organized by my ministry right here at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Sunday, 13th January 2019”, shared YB Datuk Abdul Karim.
