About Estranged
Estranged started out in 2001 with humble beginnings; vocalist Rich Gimbang and rhythm guitarist Din Hormatov met at the International College of Music (ICOM) in Kuala Lumpur, and soon became fast friends, forming a band after realising their common love for rock music. They were later joined by lead guitarist Nor Hanafi Noor Hadi, making up their current-day line up.
To date, the band has released four studio albums, the latest being Sepenuhnya Vol. 1 (2016), which earned them a prestigious Best Album nomination at the 22nd Anugerah Industri Muzik awards. Their first single from the album, entitled Hancur Aku, featuring Fazura, has more than 10 million YouTube views to date, and reached the Muzik-Muzik 31 semi-finals in 2016. The band’s previous three studio albums, In Hating Memory (2004), Remain Unknown (2008), and Anugerah Hidup (2013), drove their career to new heights, notably with the songs Aurora, Yang Pernah, and Linger (a cover of Linger, originally by the Cranberries, and of course, the unforgettable Itu Kamu.
Estranged has come a long way from their first ever gig at TwelveSI in 2001. Estranged’s passion, charisma, and showmanship have brought them from their days of being a college band to travelling around the region; they have promoted and performed their music internationally at the Soundadrenaline Music Festival (Medan & Pekan Baru, Indonesia), Ho Hai Yan Music Festival (Taiwan), Baybeats Festival (Singapore), and at the Malaysian Melbourne Community (Australia). Additionally, their international experience also includes touring in Japan, accompanied by Dazegarden, a Japanese band. Locally, they boast a show list that includes Sunburst Music Festival, MTV World Stage, Rock The World, and many others; performing alongside household names such as KORN, Incubus, All American Rejects, Kasabian, Guns N Roses, Nidji, Slank, and Ahmad Dhani.
After a three-year hiatus from 2013-2015, the band is back and ready to achieve even bigger goals in 2017. Their plans include coming out with their fifth album, projected for release in April 2017, and are set on touring Malaysia, starting with Kilang Bateri, Johor Bahru with the Konsert Sepenuhnya Vol. 1 on the 3rd of February. Estranged will continue to pursue their dreams, in the hopes to spread their music, and the love that comes with it, worldwide.
