Red Bull Music Academy Presents Kidkanevil @ APEX Lounge, Zouk Kuala Lumpur (4/3/16)
When: 8.00pm, Friday, 4th March, 2016
Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) is gearing up to host an intimate couch session with acclaimed broken beats maestro and its London 2010 alumnus, Kidkanevil. The session will be held at 8 pm on 4 March at Apex Lounge, Zouk KL. Log on to redbull.my/rbma for more details on how to secure exclusive invites.
The hour-long invite-only RBMA lecture session and Q&A segment is hosted every year as a build up to a month-long event, Red Bull Music Academy Montreal 2016. There, a selected group of producers, vocalists, beat-makers, instrumentalists and DJs from around the world attend intimate lecture sessions with pioneering figures of the music world, and collaborate on music with them and with each other in a state-of-the-art studio environment. The Academy will concurrently host month-long festival of curated signature concerts and parties to showcase Montreal’s unique musical and cultural identity.
The lecture session will conclude with a Club Night — Red Bull Music Academy Club Night presents Kidkanevil — where the public will get a chance to catch Kidkanevil at Apex Lounge, Zouk KL. Doors open at 11.00pm, standard charges applies. Local support for the Club Night comes from Akhyla Records’ first signed female act and rising star in the Malaysian bass scene, Fatim Guzel and prominent beats producers Emir Hermono x Fliko. Previous alumni or artists that have given lectures and performed in Kuala Lumpur include TOKiMONSTA, Daedelus and Bok Bok.
Kidkanevil aka Gerard Roberts hails from London UK and is known for his unique mix of street music and geek culture. His music progression was a natural one, sparked by his obsessive love for hip-hop, anime OSTs, and computer game music. As a RBMA alumnus, Kidkanevil is equally comfortable in churning Kaiju-sized beats and delicate electro acoustic soundscapes and has produced four solo albums.
One of his most notable piece is the collaborative project 'Kidsuke’ alongside visionary Japanese producer Daisuke Tanabe. He also co-produced the epic Stateless album ‘Matilda’ for Ninja Tune, released an official beat tape tribute to American electronics pioneer Raymond Scott and produced a number of tracks for UK rap giants Foreign Beggars, not to mention an almost non-stop trail of remixes and productions.
