Born and raised in suburban Kuala Lumpur, Amy’s big break came when she was discovered at the tender age of 15 by Malaysia’s multiple award-winning brother and sister team of Juwita and Aubrey Suwito. At that age, Amy had her first ever performance together with the Suwito’s, Jose and John Thomas and Search guitarist, Hilary Ang. At that same year, Amy provided back-up vocals for local superstar, Ning Baizura.
Upon graduating from Monash University with a Business and Commerce degree in 2005, Amy decided that music was her number one passion. This led her to enroll in and get accepted into the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA. In 2010, she was the background vocalist for the Aubrey Suwito’s Christmas with Friends concert which was telecasted on 8TV and was one of the featured performers for Aubrey’s 2011 Christmas Concert together with Juwita and Malaysian Idol, Jaclyn Victor. She was also selected as one of the solo artistes to be on Aubrey Suwito’s The HeART of Hymns album, in 2012, which featured Malaysia’s top singers & musicians. Amy is also an experienced performer, having performed at weddings and corporate events for companies such as McKinsey & Co., Deloitte Malaysia, RHB Bank and Ernst & Young for its Entrepreneur of the Year Award dinner ceremony.
Amy is also an experienced vocal trainer, giving private lessons in the KL and Petaling Jaya region as well as teaching at Glee Clubs and school choirs in schools such as Nobel International School, Sri KDU, Sri Sedaya and SMK Seksyen 1 Bandar Kinrara. Amy also regularly coaches at the Enfiniti Academy, whose principal is renown TV & theatre actress and drama coach, Joanna Bessey. Amy also dedicates some time to coaching local recording artistes and performers. In December 2010, she was selected to be the the vocal director and lead singer for the highly successful stage musical, MadWorld, which had a total of 16,000 audience members over 8 shows. The following year, she was appointed the vocal coach for the multi-million dollar musical, The Secret Life of Nora, coaching the likes of local superstars Puan Seri Tiara Jacquelina (Puteri Gunung Ledang), Adibah Noor, Aznil Nawawi, Tony Eusoff and New York’s Broadway star, Ryan Silverman (The Phantom of the Opera & Chicago).
In addition to her teaching and performing career, Amy released her debut EP entitled Say Goodbye in 2012, which was produced by Aubrey Suwito and featured Asia’s top musicians, Andy Peterson, Rozhan & Aji. Amy has just released her latest single, a Malay pop ballad entitled Ku Perlu Kamu, which was composed once again by Aubrey Suwito. The song can be found on iTunes and Spotify and the newly-released music video on YouTube. Amy recently produced and performed at her maiden concert entitled Amy Sings the Greatest Hits. It was a highly successful sold-out concert that received rave reviews from audience members as well as members of the press.
Blessed with a soulful and versatile voice, many will agree that Amy has a lot to offer to the local music & musical theatre industry as well as to Malaysian arts education.
