Malaysian Mosaic Music @ H-01, Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC), Empire Damansara, Jalan PJU 8/8, Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya (8/12/14)
When: 8.00pm - 10.30pm, Monday, 8th December, 2014
Malaysian Mosaic Music CD & Publication Launch cum Concert
Malaysian Mosaic Music concert features eight original compositions by alumni and staff from the Music Department. The works display many facets of musical identity through the growing process. The process of communicating, negotiating and resolving life’s conflict through birth till old age resonate throughout the flow of these pieces.
Henceforth, the journey continues; a prerequisite for knowing when, how and how much to adapt to the evolution of life and changes invariably to achieve the most successful outcome. The composition ‘Layang-Layang’ by Yuan Leow Yunn began with a paradox of life’s journey. It is about identifying ones direction, drifting and adjusting to relationships and moments of thoughts and apprehension. The compositions’ key features indicate the dominance of growth and proliferation of identities as it flows from Nelson Wong’s ‘Stardust’ to Kee Yong’s ‘Time Flows II.’
The assimilation of the richness of our heritage and ingrained into the composers’ musical craft as embedded in their daily lives are reflected in their compositions.
The night’s concert also includes the MIA Ladies Chorus, the MIA Choir, Chamber Orchestra and the MIA combo. They will be presenting classical, contemporary as well as local compositions during the second half of the performance.
