The tentative program for the two day Langkawi Buskers Fest 2014 which will take place this weekend (20th & 21st September 2014) at various locations in Langkawi, was announced today at a press conference held at the Uneed Cafe in Solaris Dutamas. Over 120 buskers will join established headliners Jinbara, OAG, Aru R.O.B. and Najwa Latif at the festival that will showcase the talents of street performers in a variety of genres. A series of programs have been lined up for both days, which includes Hello Langkawi (with buskers performing at Langkawi's popular tourist spots), An Evening in Langkawi showcase and the highly anticipated Cenang Nite concert which will be held opposite Cenang Mall. Among the top street performers that are expected to thrill audiences at the popular island destination known world over, are Genji Buskers, TC Buskers, Ipoh Buskers, KB Buskers, Kame Buskers, Buscaria and Caliph Buskers, who will be performing during the Cenang Nite concert. The highlights for the Evening In Langkawi showcase includes the Pirates& Cowboys performance, Street & Beach Modelling, Helang Drum Circle, LBF 2014 Beach Soccer Competition and buskers showcases. Also featured at the festival will be Malaysia Distro, who are famed for organising local brand merchandise fairs. The festival will be officially launched by the Chairman of The Langkawi Development Authority during Cenang Nite on the 2oth. Also to be officially launched on the same night will be My Buskers Corner by YB. Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, the honorable Minister for Urban Wellbeing, Housing & Local Government.
Speaking passionately regarding the upcoming festival at the press conference was Malaysia Buskers Club President Wahy Hamdan, who aspires for the festival to be an even bigger one this year. Sharing their thoughts as well were representatives from Official Drinks Partner Pop The Soda & Official Telco Partner Klikxtec, Radhi OAG, Jinbara & Genji Buskers. Pop The Soda announced that they will releasing a limited edition Honey Dew flavoured soda especially for the festival, while Klikxtec will be giving away free SIM cards to all participating buskers. As a prelude to the festival, Radhi OAG and Genji Buskers also treated the attending guests with several engaging performances as a teaser to what to expect.
The successful festival which is in its second year, is organised by the Malaysia Buskers Club (MYBC) in partnership with the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), Urban Wellbeing, Housing & Local Government Ministry and the Kedah State Government, and supported by the Visit Malaysia 2014 Secretariat and the National Anti Drug Agency (AADK). MYBC was formed 2 years ago, under the auspices of the Tourism & Culture Ministry and the Urban Wellbeing, Housing & Local Government Ministry, and currently has over 6,000 members. According to Wahy, with the formation of the club, busking as an art form has started to thrive and street performers can be seen engaging in their craft in nearly every state nationwide, and with the support of the governmental agencies, MYBC hopes to raise busking to the next level.
"Buskers can now be seen as Street Celebrities" he added.
