About Lynnzay
Growing up Lynnzay developed a love for dance. At the tender age of 6, when she was still in kindergarten she has already formed her own dance group. It then developed to performing at school events, concerts and eventually continued through her years while studying Mass Communication at a local university.
It all began when people started noticing her expertise in dance and when requested to choreograph a dance routine, she accepted the challenge. Since then, friends would come up and ask her to teach them on how to dance. When asked where did she learn how to dance? “It was self-taught!” A huge Britney Spears fan, she used to watch music videos of her and would try to emulate the artist’s dance moves.
After graduating, she joined an indie group called “Apple Juice” and was placed as a lead singer.
Although her main interest was still dancing, she jumped into the opportunity to try her skill in singing. The group only lasted for about 3 years as it was a suka-suka kinda thing. Still pursuing dancing, she auditioned for the 2nd season of “So You Think You Can Dance?” competition and was selected in the top 20.
Starting Off
In 2010, she, her friend and her sister formed an all-girl sing and dance group called “Senoritas” signed under R Talents (a Management Company own by Reshmonu). They were dubbed as being the Malaysian version of Destiny’s Child. The trio eventually became a duo and in 2011 and
they decided to part ways and move on with their own solo careers.
Determined and driven by passion, by May 2012, Lynnzay released her first ever single “Jejaka Idaman 2.0”, a remixed rendition of a song made popular by Raja Ema in the 80s composed by DJ Fuzz. Trying to make her mark in the local music scene, her attempt as a solo artist received
mixed reviews. It was said that the original singer didn’t approve of her remixed version. The controversy was cleared out as it was a misunderstanding and she even gotten the approval of its
original composer, Fauzi Marzuki.
Wanting to solidify her presence in the Malaysian music industry, she then released her 2nd single in English “Angel Dust”. Again, controversy was inevitable. This time around the usage of 2 plus-sized backup dancers in her music video wasn’t highly accepted. “It’s not a gimmick, it’s about getting your message out that there’s no discrimination if you have talent.” Staying true to herself, she believes everyone should embrace anyone’s talent no matter what size they come in.
“Untuk Kamu” & “Mr Parasite”
Now, with the help of a famous Malaysian Publicist, Joe Saiful, Lynnzay is more convinced that she has found the formula to go further in this industry. After much consultation, “Untuk Kamu” (Bahasa Malaysia single) and “Mr Parasite” (English single) were chosen to re-introduce her as a
solo artist to the Malaysia audience. Describing her music as a laid-back dance pop music, she hopes to hit both the Malay and urban market. “Both single are non-provocative and there is a strong street-smart vibe in it”.
She further explained that her music is more to R&B, Pop, and a mish-mash of different genres. Wanting to give her best, she writes, composes and produces every songs on her own. Planning for an album this year, Lynnzay is excited to release a full album, special for her supporters and
loyal fans. The debut album will definitely show the world Lynnzay’s flava’.
Influences
It’s no doubt that Britney Spears has influenced her in so many ways. “A true entertainer is able to sing and dance all at the same time.” Still brushing up on her vocal skill, she wishes to deliver remembrance-worthy performances in the future. She looks up to likes of Ne-Yo, Usher, Ciara and Janet Jackson.
The Name
Why the name Lynnzay? Wouldn’t it be mistaken with Lindsay Lohan? Growing up, she had a bunch of nicknames. Always confused of which nick to be used, she decided to combine all those nicks and it finally derived to Lynnzay ...
Pastime
Admitting that she’s a boring person, Lynnzay don’t really hang out that much. She prefers to brush up on her singing and dancing skills at the studio. She hopes one day to open her own studio and dreams about producing more sing and dance groups. A strong supporter of the local
film industry, she’ll watch just about everything. “If we don’t support our own products, who will?
Not Another Clone?
Always being compared with Mizz Nina, Lynnzay said that if you were to listen to her songs closely, they’re completely different. Nonetheless, she felt honoured being associated with such a big name in the industry as she looks up to Mizz Nina and very proud of her achievements. “I don’t
mind really, she’s super-talented, successful and I respect her as an artist. People will still compare, no matter what and they don’t want a clone. So give me a chance to prove myself.”
Hopes And Aspirations
Lynnzay wishes that with the release of “Untuk Kamu”, the Malaysian audience will get to savour her real style in music and see what she is actually made off. With “Jejaka Idaman 2.0” it was more of an experimental interpretation and she didn’t really get to showcase her true identity. Nonetheless, she’s grateful of what it has done to her and recognized it has catapulted her existence in the music scene.
